Administered by Public Lands Alliance (PLA), the official national strategic fundraising, friendraising, and marketing partner to the National Wildlife Refuge System, Walk for the Wild provides a platform for Refuges and their nonprofit partners to get people moving in nature and help generate important funding to advance their missions.

Over the past three years, Walk for the Wild has raised more than $90,000 to support National Wildlife Refuge programs and nonprofit partners. Thousands of people have joined in celebrating National Wildlife Refuge Week and have participated in Walk for the Wild events hosted throughout the nation. We look forward to continuing this annual tradition again in 2024 and are excited to raise more funds and engage even more people than ever before.

WHAT IS WALK FOR THE WILD?

Walk for the Wild is a time to celebrate our commitment to deepening human connections with nature and to protecting the thriving ecosystems on which we depend. The goal is to get thousands of people moving a distance of 5K on behalf of national wildlife refuges during National Wildlife Refuge Week, and grow the capacity of the nonprofits that support the National Wildlife Refuge System. It also provides an opportunity to demonstrate how important the work done on wildlife refuges is.

Walk with us to thrive. Walk to make sure wildlife thrives.

Walk for the Wild team comprises one nonprofit and its affiliated NWRS field station(s). Participating Walk for the Wild nonprofits (pending application & approval) are required to plan, execute, and promote their Walk for the Wild event. Using the provided Walk for the Wild online event platform, participating nonprofit partners will administer Walk for the Wild Team pages that will allow participants to sign-up/register for their respective events and activate supporters to donate and designate their donations in support of a participating nonprofit organization and/or program that supports a National Wildlife Refuge program.
