SILVER SPRING - The Senate passed S.47, the Natural Resources Management Act, with tremendous bipartisan support. Dan Puskar, executive director of the Public Lands Alliance (PLA) released the following statement:

"Congress is on the verge of a monumental enhancement to America's public lands. PLA applauds the Senate's passage of S.47, the Natural Resources Management Act, and encourages the House of Representatives to take it up swiftly.

"The bill authorizes many important provisions important to the nonprofit partners of public lands. These include:

  • Permanent authorization of the Land and Water Conservation Fund;

  • Every Kid Outdoors Act;

  • 21st Century Conservation Service Corps Act;

  • Boundary expansions and mining protections for Joshua Tree National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and other treasured landscapes;

  • Important wilderness designations in national monuments like Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks;

  • New wild and scenic rivers, heritage areas, and recreation areas, increasing opportunities for conservation and visitor enjoyment.

"The recent government shutdown left many of America's federal lands damaged and created dangerous hazards for visitors. Strong bipartisan passage of the Natural Resources Management Act reminds us that Congress has the capacity to deliberately and conscientiously develop legislation that enriches the American people for present and future generations.

"PLA is eager to work with the House of Representatives to enact this legislation and get it to the President's desk."
