American Backcountry

One of the most popular sessions at our 2019 convention! By overwhelming request, we reprised our look at retail operations for all public lands folks who, well, are not particularly retail-oriented—nonprofits and agencies alike!

Public lands retail operations present special challenges. To meet sales goals and the interpretive needs of their partners, cooperating associations are selling much different product today than they were 10 years ago. Public lands retailers need to extend experiences on an emotional level, but for every park visitor that means something different. In this webinar, we explored how folks with a non-retail background can assist their nonprofit partner in reaching park visitors on both an intellectual and emotional level, and likewise, how the nonprofit partner can assist the federal partner in understanding the nature of their business.
