Perfect for leaders and future leaders of both nonprofits and land management agencies, this three-part boot camp will look at best practices for important management and operations functions of nonprofit organizations as well as those practices that fit into building your public lands partnerships.

Part 1: Introduction to Public Lands Nonprofits

Time: Monday, March 2, 10:15 am - 11:30 am

In this first segment, we’ll look at the best practices for nonprofit organizations in general, as well as the nuts and bolts of cooperating associations and friends groups (including an overview of regulations, resources, etc.). The perfect intro to public lands nonprofits.

Part 2: Nonprofit Governance

Time: Monday, March 2, 1:00 pm - 2:15 pm

Participation in the Intro to Nonprofits section is not a prerequisite for this section.

In this section, we’ll explore the basic tenets of nonprofit governance, including the best practices of governing boards, the legal duties of a board, and board committees that will facilitate the smooth operation of your organization.

Part 3: Financial Basics

Time: Monday, March 2, 2:30 pm - 3:45 pm

Participation in the first two sections is not a prerequisite for this section.

During this section, we’ll look at the financial basics necessary to run a nonprofit organization—the benefits of being a nonprofit, the requisite forms to file, and the best practices to sustain your organization well into the future. We’ll clarify who needs to know what (EDs, staff, board) and include new information on the recent financial statement and tax changes.
