Capitol Hill Day

2020 Convention and Trade Show

Arlington, VA, March 1 - 5, 2020

Capitol Hill Day

Calling all champions for public lands! Join the Public Lands Alliance community for our second large-scale Capitol Hill day.

There is no substitute for the opportunity to meet face-to-face with legislators and help them better understand the value of public lands as well as the partnerships that enhance them. You’ll get to share your passion for public lands and discuss how partners leverage Congressional appropriations and attract private contributions through philanthropy, retail sales, volunteerism, and educational programs – all for the benefit of both public lands and their diverse visitors.

All convention participants are welcomed and encouraged to participate – attendees, exhibitors, speakers, volunteers and companions.

And, it doesn’t matter if you’ve never met your Member of Congress before or if you’re a frequent visitor to the Capitol – your voice is needed. Participants will be placed on teams, pairing first time advocates for public lands with seasoned advocacy veterans.

Please note: there is no additional registration fee to participate, but participants are responsible for their own transportation (metro fare and/or taxi to/from the hotel and Capitol Hill) and lunch.

Our Agenda

The tentative schedule for Thursday, March 5, 2020 will include:

  • 8:30 am briefing in Grand Ballroom Salons AB at the Crystal Gateway Marriott. This will include a final review of the major meetings and messages of the day. You may also pick up leave behind folders and a map of the Capitol complex.
  • Meetings with individual Senators, Representatives or their staff scheduled by you, your team leads and PLA.
  • Evening reception on the Hill (tentatively 4:00-5:30pm)

PLA will provide talking points and an advocacy toolkit.

Scheduling Your Visit

In early to mid February 2020, PLA will reach out to Hill Day registrants and connect them with their "State Captain." To maximize our impact and streamline our efforts, the State Captain will be your point of contact and will help coordinate the Senate visits for you and your fellow attendees from your state. In states with only one or two representatives, the State Captain may coordinate a House visit. In larger states, attendees will schedule their own meetings and notify the State Captain so that he or she can track our overall presence.

PLA may also ask you to participate in a targeted visit to a Member of Congress who sits on a committee of strategic importance to the Alliance's legislative goals, is a relevant Committee Chair or Ranking Member, or is a member of the Senate or House leadership.
