FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
-- The Public Lands Alliance (PLA) announced today that the 2nd annual fundraiser to support America's national wildlife refuges, Walk for the Wild, will take place this fall, and will include in-person and virtual nature walks during National Wildlife Refuge Week on
October 8-15, 2022. For this year's Walk for the Wild, PLA has joined forces with 32 nonprofit wildlife refuge friends organizations to get people active in nature and to increase support for 56 diverse national wildlife refuges.
"For this year's Walk for the Wild, our participating friends group partners are dedicated to conserving incredible biodiversity, from endangered and threatened species to migratory birds. PLA is proud to join forces with each of them," said President and CEO Dan Puskar. "For those who treasure our nation's unique wildlife - from American symbols like the bald eagle and bison, to endangered and threatened species like polar bears and red wolves - I hope you'll get active outside with us this fall by accepting our 5K challenge and supporting America's wildlife refuges.”
WHAT IS WALK FOR THE WILD?
Walk for the Wild is one part innovative philanthropic initiative, and one part outdoor recreation challenge. In collaboration with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, PLA envisioned a nationwide collaborative event to support 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations which enhance national wildlife refuges in their local communities. And so we've come together with these friends groups in an efficient, unified fundraiser to get people of every age and ability to get moving in nature.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
Everyone is invited to participate. Registration is free. Visit our
Walk for the Wild website
and click "Register.". Select a team created by one of our friends group partners to learn about the in-person or virtual walks they have scheduled during National Wildlife Refuge Week.
HOW DO I GIVE TO SUPPORT WILDLIFE REFUGE FRIENDS GROUPS?
There are two pathways to give through the Walk for the Wild. Donate to a participating friends group, directly increasing their support of a specific wildlife refuge(s), by searching for their Team Name in the field at the top of our online donation page.
Alternatively, you might search for and make a gift to Team America's Wildlife Refuges. Funds raised by Team America's Wildlife Refuges are used to partially match the participating friends group gifts, substantially increasing the impact of all participating friends group’s fundraising efforts.
The Walk for the Wild Giving Season is September 1 - October 21.
HOW WILL MY GIFT BE USED?
Your gift demonstrates your commitment to deepening human connections with nature and to help wildlife, and the ecosystems we all depend on, to thrive. Your gift builds the strength and capacity of our participating friends groups, all of which are 501(c)(3) organizations and are official partners of their local wildlife refuge or refuges.
